Beagle Wins Westminster Dog Show 2015

The winner of this years Westminster Kennel Club dog show held in New York City is a 4 year old Canadian Beagle named Miss P.

It was a show shocker when the beagle was named by judge David Merriam as the winner, with Miss P beating out 2,711 dogs of 192 breeds.

The dog is owned by Lori and Kaitlyn Crandlemire of Enderby, B.C. and American Eddie Dziuk, and bred by Lori Crandlemire.

As the contest winner Miss P will spend Wednesday making appearances on the morning TV shows, plus a meeting with Donald Trump, lunch at Manhattan’s Sardi’s restaurant and a role in the Broadway hit musical Kinky Boots.

This win is the 20th best in show for Miss P with handler Will Alexander saying, “She never let me down. She didn’t make any mistakes.”

Miss P’s name is short for Peyton, and its official champion’s name is Tashtins Lookin for Trouble.

Making it to the best-of-seven final ring was full of favorites were:

A Skye terrier who came in second. A Standard Poodle, a Shih Tzu owned by Patty Hearst and an English Springer Spaniel also made it to the last ring.

And favorites; Matisse, a Portuguese water dog that’s related to President Barack Obama’s dog Sunny, who was the top-winning male in show dog history with 238.

Plus Swagger, an old English sheepdog who finished second at Westminster in 2013 and clearly drew the biggest cheers from the crowd.

The winners at the Westminster show receiver no money, instead, there’s prestige in the dog circles, plus the possibility of lucrative breeding rights.
