Brent Sass has won this years Yukon Quest dog sled race from Whitehorse, Yukon to Fairbanks, Alaska. Finishing one hour ahead of second place finisher Alan Moore.

This is Brent first win in 9 attempts, last years race seen him racing neck and neck with Moore before a crash forced him out of the race and airlifted to a hospital in Whitehorse.

Brent said to the media, “It’s unreal, I’m real proud of those 12 dogs.”

Bren had a nearly 10-hour lead over Moore earlier in the race, but lost most of that when he slept through his alarm on Birch Creek, turning a planned five-hour rest into one that nearly doubled it. Sass said to Yukon Quest officials at the finish line, “It works! Fall asleep on the trail for 10 hours and you can come in first!”

Brent’s official time for the race is nine days, 12 hours, and 49 minutes. And for winning, he’ll take home just over $24,000, plus four ounces of gold for being the first musher to reach Dawson City, Yukon, and then go on to finish the race.

Third place went to Ed Hopkins and Damon Alexander Tedford was forth.
