Dallas Seavey wins third Iditarod

Dallas Seavey is this years winner of Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, beating out his father to finish first on Wednesday after racing 1,000 miles across Alaska.

This is Dallas’ third win, have won the races in 2012 and 2014. Pictured hugged his dogs after their victory he said, “It takes a whole team to get any of us here.”

“As long as you take care of the dog team and make good decisions, good things will happen. Wins are a result of doing what we love.”

Mitch Seavey, his father, finished in second place this year, he’s previous won races in 2004 and 2013, as Dallas said they encouraged each other along the way.

Unfortunately 3 dogs have died in this years race, 1 at starting ceremony after it got loose and was hit by a car. And two dogs have died on the Lance Mackey team, Stiffy a three year old dog died suddenly at about 5:15 p.m. Friday on the trail between Elim and White Mountain. And another 3 year old dog named Wyatt who died during the run from Tanana to Ruby.

Race officials will have a necropsy performed on these two dog to determine the exact cause of death.
