This business manager and expert comes home to three dachshunds every night and spends as much time with them as possible. His dogs (known as his “little army”) bring him joy with what he calls their fun, loving, and sometimes almost legendary stubbornness. He’s not the only one who feels this way.

Bred to be hunting dogs (their long, narrow bodies make digging and burrowing for tough animals easier), they were also bred to be sharp, attentive, and focused. Like all hunting dogs, the dachshund has been bred for loyalty. Fernando Jose Cuellar Membreno states that his three pups follow him everywhere, love to sit on the couch, and sleep in bed with him every night. But, importantly, dachshunds are also bred to be dog-friendly, meaning they usually get along well with other pups. Often, they spend a lot of time together, lying on or near each other, cleaning each other, and playing.
Even better, each of his pups has unique personality traits. Dachshunds can be bossy, fun-loving, laid-back, serious, and even caring. More than once, he’s seen his loving pups leap up onto his lap when life was terrible. He’s even seen them lick away tears as others cried, frantically trying to help their beloved family members feel better. This type of human-dog bond is very critical for dachshunds and their owners.
Even their potentially harmful traits can be very engaging for some owners. For example, dachshunds have high separation anxiety, which means they love spending time with you. However, he has trained them to handle time better alone to minimize their anxiety and emotional struggles.
